Brian Haberly is a Senior Paralegal in the Corporate and Securities
Group of Starbucks Coffee Company in Seattle, Washington. Brian received
his undergraduate degree from California State University, Northridge
and his Paralegal Certificate (Corporate Specialization, Magna Cum Laude)
from the University of West Los Angeles, in an ABA approved program.
He has been in the legal profession for nearly 25 years, serving
in the Corporate Legal departments of several leading public companies
such as Expedia, InfoSpace, and Mosaix (now a division of Avaya Communications),
and he was previously employed with the Seattle law firms of
Lane Powell PC and Williams Kastner & Gibbs, and also
the firms of Irell and Manella and Jones Day Reavis & Pogue in Los Angeles. Brian is currently serving as a Community Advisory Board Member of the Edmonds Community College Paralegal Program. He previously served as an Advisory Board Member of the Association of Corporate Counsel's inaugural Paralegal Track at the 2007 Corporate Counsel University.
Brian has spoken before paralegal audiences in Seattle, San Francisco, Atlanta, and St. Louis. He
was also profiled in Thomson/West Legal Studies' The Law of Corporations, and Other
Business Organizations, 4ed., published in 2007.
Brian has been a member of WSPA for 15 years and was
co-founder of the East King County Chapter. He formerly served as WSPA's At-Large West Director and also Chaired the Positions
and Issues Committee. Brian moderated the National Federation of Paralegal
Associations (NFPA's) Corporations and Intellectual Property "List
Serves" for two years each. Brian is a current member of the National
Association of Stock Plan Professionals (NASPP) and has been a past
member of the International Trademark Association (INTA).
In his spare time, Brian is active with the Starbucks Chapter
of Toastmasters International (having founded the Club and served as its first President ) and continues to encourage his fellow partners (employees)
to participate and thereby improve their communication and leadership
skills. Brian also chairs the "Climate Change Task Force" as part of a company Environmental Club that encourages people to make Sustainable Living choices and to reduce their environmental footprint.
Brian is
the proud father of three children (two boys, one girl), all of whom
are soccer players. If he's not at work or at a paralegal meeting,
Brian can usually be found on the sidelines of a good soccer match. (Go Seattle Sounders!)
